The MessengerThere met once in a secluded place many leaders of business and public figureheads of government, to feast and debauch themselves, and discuss the consolidation of their dominion over the world. And a certain night there was a great banquet laid out, and they all had began to become drunk and make merry, when a knock was heard. "What the hell?!" Asked one "Who in the name of god could have come all the way out here?" "Don't let them in!" Said another. But the door seemed to open of it's own accord, an a strange man in a yellow suit stepped into the room, familiar yet utterly alien at the same time, grinning at the incredulous revelers. "Greetings gentlemen." He said "I come bearing a message." The men all stared at one another in disbelief. Each seemed to be gazing at the other in expectation that they would call for security, and one said, "Who let this nigger in here?" But the stranger simply smiled again and seemed, with a wave of His hand, to dismiss their concerns. "I believe you received notice of my coming. Have you not seen the yellow sign?" And at these words a wave of fear swept the gathering, each suddenly remembering certain dreams they had of late, that filled them with fear of... they knew not what. "You see? It is all perfectly according to protocol. Now then... I require a chair. And a plate of food. I have traveled far and am quite hungry." He paced around the table, with all the diners seemingly frozen in place, finally stopping behind a chair and lifting the occupant up with one hand and throwing him on the ground in front of Himself. He then sat down, placing his feet upon the man, who made no move to resist and began eating with his hands, spilling a great deal of food in the process. "Hmmm..." He said. "I think I now require a dog more than a footrest, and he removed his feet from the man, who proceeded to eat the scraps of food from the ground and bark occasionally. The man made a rather grand gesture, as though this where some marvelous thing the audience should regard very closely. But they made no move, only staring in shock. "So now you see the way tonights entertainment shall go." Each of you, in turn, shall be brought low, shall be humiliated and broken, and each in a new and novel way. The only amusement left to you shall be that over the degradation of your fellows, and that tempered by the knowledge that it is You who may be next...." But before the stranger could complete His speech, the audience, all at once got up from there chairs, each apparently hoping to slip out unnoticed, but this being obviously impossible, they all began running for the door. "I wouldn't do that if I where you..." Said the stranger, but they did not listen. Out they ran, but soon stopped, and stared about in horror. The world and the heavens about had become an endless vortex of swirling chaos, and the the estate in which they had come for their festival was but an island in that churning sea of madness and horror. About them, waves of it seemed to be slowly lapping at it, and wearing in away into formlessness. The Stranger, somehow standing before them, now said, "So.... I see you are impatient. Would you like me to deliver my message now? Or would you rather go back inside and continue our games a while longer? And they all filed back inside, meekly to submit to whatever He chose to inflict upon them. [Next] |
